The Scholarships in 2009
The description of the Scholarships below refers to the Scholarships as advertised in 2007 for granting in 2008.
The terms of the Scholarships are under review. Instructions for applications in 2008 for 2009 will be posted on this site in due course.
Preamble
The Scholarships were established by the Mykola Zerov Centre for Ukrainian Studies in the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, Monash University, with funds generously donated by Mr Victor Rudewych and Mrs Mimi Rudewych through their company, the Mimivic Group.
The Scholarships aim to encourage students in Australia to enrol in Ukrainian language programs for the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the Higher School Certificate (HSC), or the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
Terms
Four Scholarships will be awarded in 2008.
Students who accept a Scholarship promise to complete a formal school-based course of study in Ukrainian and to fulfil the requirements of the VCE, HSC or SACE in Ukrainian in 2008.
The value of each Scholarship will be $2500, of which $1000 will be paid when the Scholarship recipients are announced and the remaining $1500 on or about 1 September 2008.
A Scholarship Certificate and a cheque for the first $1000 will be presented to each Scholarship holder at a suitable public occasion in the city where he or she lives.
Applications
The Scholarship will be advertised on the web sites of the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics and the Ukrainian Education Council of Australia, as well as in the Ukrainian Community media in Australia in August 2007.
Each application will comprise: (a) the applicant’s curriculum vitae; (b) documentation showing results achieved by the applicant in his or her studies in all subjects, including Ukrainian language, at all levels of secondary school; (c) evidence of enrolment in a formal school-based course of study in Ukrainian; and (d) a 500-word statement in Ukrainian by the applicant, explaining why he or she should be awarded the Scholarship. This statement will be judged for the quality of its argument. Linguistic correctness will be a secondary criterion.
Applications will be on paper. Electronic application will not be possible. Applications will be mailed to the following address:

They must be received no later than 30 November 2007.
Selection Process
A committee comprising the director of the Mykola Zerov Centre for Ukrainian Studies, one other member of the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, and a person nominated by the Ukrainian Education Council of Australia will consider applications and announce the successful applicants no later than 31 January 2008.
Scholarships will be awarded only where applications are of sufficient merit.
Eligibility
Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia are eligible to apply.
