ATS2387/3387 Beyond Gallipoli: Australians in Two World Wars

This subject will earn you 12 credit points. It begins in Istanbul towards the end of June, includes 3 full days in that ancient and beautiful city.  Then we journey to the Gallipoli Peninsula and reconstruct the battles of 1915.  Over several days we'll explore the valleys, ridges and coastline; we'll also visit the classical wonders of Troy.  After 2 weeks in Turkey the Study Tour relocates to Italy.  Our Prato Study Centre is set in the hills of historic Tuscany and here we'll examine in detail Australia's involvement in World War Two.  You can speed up your degree by combining this unit with another 6 Credit Point offered at Prato, earning 18 points in all over 4 weeks of study.  This subject is eligible for the $3500 Monash Gallipoli Prize.  You can also apply for further subsidies from Monash Abroad.

The Monash University Prato Centre is located on the ground and first floors of the elegant 18th century Palazzo Vaj on Via Pugliesi in the historic centre of Prato.

Prato, in northern Tuscany, is close to several of Europe’s most significant cities and institutions — thirty minutes from Florence and the European University Institute in Fiesole, one hour from Bologna — home to Europe’s oldest university, two hours from Rome, and three hours from Milan.  Florence airport is a fifteen minute drive away, where short flights can be taken to most major cities in Europe.  Prato is on the major north-south railway line in Italy which links Rome with Milan, Turin, Munich and beyond.
