Centre for Gippsland Studies

The Centre for Gippsland Studies (CGS) is a research centre on Gippsland specialising in the history, Aborigines, environment, social sciences and literature of Gippsland and is located at Monash University Gippsland Campus. The CGS houses a collection that is available to the public, undertakes research and consultancies associated with the history and heritage of Gippsland, and teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It hosts an active conference and seminar program.
The CGS is committed to enhancing understanding and knowledge of the region, completing high quality research and interpretation that will benefit the region and providing a forum for community and academic researchers in Gippsland.
As a centre specialising in a region of Victoria that has diverse industrial, agricultural, environmental and recreational concerns and activities, the CGS contributes to national research and documentation of rural and regional Australia.
The Centre is now open by appointment Monday - Thursday.
