Quota overview
During your studies you will be expected to make reasonable use of the Internet for research and communications with academic staff and other students.
The Faculty and its Schools pay for Internet access as part of your educational program.
All Internet transactions are recorded and can be traced to a particular user ID . For this reason you must keep your Authcate username and password secure. If you have reason to believe that others may have obtained and could be using your Authcate username and password, then you must report it immediately.
Quota amount for Arts students
The Arts Quota for all students is 1 Gigabyte per semester.
Who do I contact to get my Internet Quota allocated to me?
You do not need to request you Internet Quota - you automatically have the Internet Quota for the semesters in which you are enrolled in units.

Internet usage restrictions
Some uses of the Internet result in very large financial charges and are not part of your education program. Internet use that is not directly related to your studies, including the following, is not permitted .
- downloading or exchanging audio and video files including MP3 files and other similar files;
- streaming (listening or watching) video and audio in real-time including Internet "radio/television" stations or music sites (streamed lectures and other in-house teaching materials provided via Monash Lectures Online, or other areas are allowed):
- downloading entire WWW /FTP external sites or significant parts of such sites particularly those including images and games programs, unless the material is specifically relevant to your course of study;
- playing any form of game over the Internet;
- Skype or any other type of Internet Telephone product
- accessing any site containing pornographic material.
Internet access using your user ID which breaches this policy will result in you personally being charged the cost of this access and any additional administrative charges that may apply.
Using more than your allocated quota
You will not automatically lose access to the internet when your quota is used up, however if you exceed your by a significant amount, your internet access may be withdrawn.
What web-sites count toward quota usage
Only access to pages external to monash are counted as part of your quota usage. You can visit as many sites within Monash University (monash.edu.au) as you want, without using up your quota.
