Associate Professor Justin Oakley

Assoc. Prof. Justin Oakley, Director of the Centre, is the author of Morality and the Emotions, and Virtue Ethics and Professional Roles (with Dean Cocking) as well as articles in scholarly journals. He joined the Centre in 1990 and has primary responsibility for the teaching of the Master of Bioethics course. Justin's main research interests are in the areas of ethical theory and professional roles, ethical issues in patient care, ethics of clinical trials, surrogacy, virtue ethics and its applications, and the connection between moral psychology and ethical theory.

Dr Rob Sparrow

Senior Lecturer Dr Rob Sparrow joined the Centre in July 2004, and teaches in the Master of Bioethics course and in the undergraduate Minor in Bioethics. Rob's main research interests are in the areas of bioethics, moral philosophy and social and political philosophy.

Dr Linda Barclay

Dr Linda Barclay joined the Centre in January 2007. She teaches in the minor in Bioethics. Her main research areas are in contemporary political philosophy and bioethics, particularly focused on distributive justice, the ethics of markets, and equality. She is therefore interested in the vast range of issues connected to the increasing commercialisation of the body and its parts.

Dr Barclay was previously lecturer in moral and political philosophy at the University of Aarhus, Denmark.

Dr Jo Asscher

Dr Jo Asscher joined the Centre in January 2005, and also teaches in the Master of Bioethics course. Jo's main research interests are in the areas of applied ethics, bioethics, environmental ethics and ethics.

Helga Kuhse

Associate Professor Helga Kuhse

Associate Professor Helga Kuhse was appointed in 1981 as the University's (and Australia's) first research fellow in bioethics. She has been Director of the Centre for Human Bioethics until June 1999. She is the author of Caring: Nurses, Women and Ethics,The Sanctity of Life Doctrine in Medicine: A Critique, co-author of Should the Baby Live? with Peter Singer, editor of Willing to Listen - Wanting to Die and has published numerous articles in scholarly journals.

Dr Deborah Zion

co-editor of Monash Bioethics Review since 2000. She has completed

Deborah has been her Ph.D. (Bioethics) at Monash in 2001. Deborah is also employed as Ethics Coordinator through the Faculty of Medicine at Monash.
