How to Subscribe to Collabra Newsgroups Using Netscape Messenger
Step 1.
Open Netscape Messenger and right
click on collabra1.monash.edu.au in the Name panel.
Select
Subscribe to Newsgroups...
If required enter your user details and select OK , Netscape will download the Collabra newsgroups and list all the current groups for you to scroll through and select those you wish to read or subscribe to.
Highlight each group in turn (or use Shift, click to select all the relevant groups) and then select Subscribe .
Select OK . The newsgroups you subscribed to will now appear in the left hand Name panel.
Step 2.
To read a particular group, select the group in the Name panel and the news items will be listed in the right hand panel:
To read a particular item, highlight the item and read in the lower pane. Clicking on a + symbol in the items window will present all the items in a particular thread:
Step 3.
You can post a new message to the selected news group (Folders panel) by clicking on the New Msg task button:
Or post a follow up to the currently highlighted message by selecting the Reply button:
If you use the Reply All button, an email reply will also be sent to the author of the currently highlighted item.
How to Configure Outlook Express to Use the Collabra News Server
Step 1.
Open Outlook Express and select Accounts...
from the Tools menu.
Select Add then News...
Step 2.
Enter your display name that will be used for your postings.
Enter your E-mail address for replies/responses.
Enter the name for the Collabra news (NNTP) server:collabra1.monash.edu.au
,
and tick the My news server requires
me to log on box.
Now enter your Authcate user account name (and password if you wish) - this will be supplied to you by Monash University.
If your PC is used by multiple users it is recommended that you leave the password blank and do not check remember password:
Select N ext , then Finish , followed by Close in the Internet Accounts window.
Step 3.
You will be asked if you would like to download newsgroups from the new server.
Click on Y es .
This will either directly download the Collabra newsgroups or prompt you for a password, if you left it blank above (as a security measure).
If required enter your password and select OK , Outlook Express will download the Collabra newsgroups and list all the current groups for you to scroll through and select those you wish to read or subscribe to.
Select OK . This will return you to the main Outlook Express window with the news entry for Collabra showing the groups you have just subscribed to.
